The Canterville Ghost Chapter-3 Class-11 (Summary in English)

Chapter-3-The Canterville  Ghost

Summary in English

The next morning when the Otis family met at breakfast, They discussed the ghost. Mr. Otis was annoyed of the act (of the twins) of throwing pillows on him. He also expressed his desire to be polite with him considering the length of time he  had been in the house. Morever, He also said that he would take the chains of the ghost if he declined to use the lubricator and disturb his sleep.
There was no disturbance for the rest of the week except the blood-stains. The strange thing was the colour of the blood, Sometimes it was chameleon-like, Sometimes dull red,Then vermilion, Then purple and once it was emerald green. The ghost made his second appearance on Sunday. When everyone came to see, They saw the Canterville ghost down the stairs, Rubbing his knees with an acute agony on his face. At the same time, the twinsn brought their pea-shooters and discharged two pallets onhim, while  the minister covered him with  his revolver. The ghost swept like a mist with a wild shriek of rage. On reaching the staircase he determined to give his frightful laugh which had always been successful. He laughed but immediately Mrs. Otis came and gave him a bottle of Doctor Dobell's tincture. The ghost got more furious and planned to become a large black dog but the sound of footsteps of the twins restricted him from doing so.

On reaching his room, he broke down. He waas annoyed to become a  prey of the vulgarity of the twins and also of Mrs. Otis but the thing which irritated him the most was that he was not able to wear his suit of mail. That was not able to wear his suit which he had worn several times when alive but today completely overpowered by the weight of the suit and had fallen down hurting himself. After resting for few days, the ghost planned for the third time. This time he decided to wear his large slouched hat with a red feather, a winding-sheet frilled at the wrists and neck and a rusty dagger. He decided to terrorize Washington first by stabbing himself thrice with a special grudge then placing his sticky hand on Mr. Otis and whispering in the ears of Mr. Otis the secret of charnel-house. He decided not to trrorize Virginia that much as she never insulted her. For the twins he had special plans. He thought to sit on their chest till they  become paralyzed with the fear and then to roam around the room with white bleached  bones and one rolling eyeball in the character of 'suicide skeleton'.

He was very happy with his plan. At quarter past eleven everyone fell asleep. The weather was perfect to scare anyone. He started with an evil smile on his cruel, wrinkled mouth. He reached Washington's room. He chuckled to himself and turned the corner but  no sooner had he done so, a wail of terror, He fell back and hit his blanched face in his bony hands. Infornt of him was standing a motionless carven image as monstrous as a madman's  dream.
The ghost had never seen a ghost before, hence was terribly frightened, he fled back to his room dropping the rusty dagger. After a time the old Canterville spirit asserted himself and decided to go and speak to the other ghost in order  to get his help to take his revenge from the twins. Next night, he reached the spot again the wall. To his horror, he saw the head slipped off and rolled on the floor, the body assumed a strange posture. He cluthed the placard with feverish haste written
                                               YE OTIS GHOSTE
Ye onlie True and Originale Spook,
                                          Beware of Ye Imitationes.
                                        All others are counterfeite
The ghost understood everything. He was tricked and out witted. He got angry and pledged to take revenge of his insult.
