Chapter-7- The Canterville Ghost

Mr. Otis and the family organized a funeral from Canterville Chase after four days, at about 11 o'clock at night. The funeral ceremony of the hearse of Canterville ghost was wonderfully impressive. Lord Canterville was the chief mourner along with many others. When the ceremony was over Virginia laid a large cross over the coffin, her eyes became dim with tears. The next morning Mr. Otis went up to Lord Canterville and told him about the box of jewels which the ghost had given to little Virginia. The jewels were superb specimen of sixteenth century. He offered them to Lord Canterville, to taken them to London with him as it was the part of their property. He said that Otis family cannot keep those precious jewels except the box which Virginia wanted to keep as a memento of the unfortunate but misguided ghost.
Lord Canterville smiled and asked Mr. Otis to keep the box of jewels with them as ot was a gift for Virginia from their ancestor, Sir Simon. He assured that no one had any claim on those jewels except Virginia, and that those should be given to her on her marriage.
Years passed, Virginia got married got married to the Duke of Cheshire and became the young Duchess of Cheshire. The Duke and Duchess, after the honeymoon came to Canterville Chase. They went to the tomb of Sir Simon where Virginia kept lovely roses. Later Cecil asked his wife to tell the secret of that night when she was locked up with the ghost. Virginia said that she had promised Sir Simon not to tell it to anyone. Cecil kissed his wife and asked her to keep the secret as long as she wanted
